Helping out at Festivals & Exhibitions

zen shiatsu school logo.jpg (41856 bytes)

If you are a past or present student of the Zen School of Shiatsu and think you might like to meet new people and develop your practice simply by giving a few hours of your time to helping out ata Festival please read through the following, down to The Next Step

Our Purpose at Festivals and Exhibitions is to:

  • bring our School to the awareness of people by giving out leaflets at the stand. Think of what you might say to someone asking about the difference between our Zen approach to shiatsu and others they may have seen or experienced.
  • give short head-neck-shoulder treatments, demonstrating the style of Zen Shiatsu (Please NO chopping, hacking, shaking or rubbing!)
  • talk to people about Zen Shiatsu and inform them about your own practice. It is a good idea to give participants your name and contact number after treatment.

We offer Head-Neck-& Shoulder Treatments for £10 for up to 15 minutes. (Please try not to jitsu the time). People can pay by Visa as well as cheque or cash. Please make sure they pay, and you keep half (£5) of the treatment money towards your costs of travel, food etc.

Tips and guidelines based on what we have learned at previous festivals:

Offer leaflets to passers-by with: “Would you like some FREE shiatsu information?...Have you had Shiatsu before?.........would you like to try it (again)?”

Many passers-by are shy to ask, and appreciate your approaching them.

Please try and talk to everyone you give leaflets to

When there are no customers for treatment, please treat each other. Keep the Stand busy yet still. It only needs TWO of us giving out leaflets - take turns so that passers-by don’t feel hassled or crowded by a barrage of diligent distributors. Now please read this paragraph again.

Respect “sacred space” by keeping the table clear of food, cups, watches, bits and pieces of belongings: just the leaflets, crystal, book and waterbowl are enough to create the atmosphere of healing love and stillness amid chaos. Please leave your own kit in the changing rooms. Receivers’ bags etc can be stacked against the wall.

Clear space is calm space

PLEASE: If you want to eat, chat or do exercises in the quiet periods, please find a place away from the Stand. Please BE AWARE of what is going on, in the Stand, around the Stand and in the aisles; how many of us are working, how many people are waiting, how receivers are responding to treatment (not just yours but other students.) Keep an eye on students less experienced than you, and their participants. Please read this paragraph again.

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE STAND DURING YOUR SHIFT unless there are at least three of us remaining.

Before and after, enjoy the rest of the Festival and our tradition of having a really good time: as at all our exhibitions and festivals.

Have fun - Be gentle - SMILE a lot - Help each other - Thank You for Helping
